Lifeline Utility Assistance Program for Seniors
Lifeline consists of three programs: Lifeline Credit Program provides a $225 annual benefit in the form of a credit on electric and gas utility bills for eligible beneficiaries. Tenants Lifeline Assistance Program provides a $225 annual benfit in the form of a check to eligible tenants who have the cost of gas and electric utilities included in their rent. Special Utility Supplement provides a supplement of up to $18.75 a month to recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in place of a Lifeline Utility credit or Tenants Lifeline Assistance payment. To qualify, you must be a recipient of: PAAD or meet the eligibility requirements for PAAD; Medical Assistance to the Aged (MAA); Medical Assistance Only (MAO); or the New Jersey Care.

NJ 2-1-1 helps people find solutions to personal needs by informing them of resources in their community. They provide information on day care facilities, shelters, affordable housing units, social services, employment training programs, senior services, medical insurance, and more.

Once you’ve answered these questions, you’ll be taken to a page on the website that offers a customized list of programs and services designed to help people in your situation. From this page, you will learn where to go for help and what to bring with you. You’ll also be able to apply for some programs (food stamps and health insurance) online.”
